Mercury dips in coast but boils west Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Amid apprehensions over delay in onset of monsoon this year, temperature plummeted few degrees Celsius giving a bit of relief to people in coastal belt of Odisha but it continues to scorch west and interior parts of the State.

According to data available with the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, out of the 10 stations which recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, eight of them are in western Odisha.

Titlagarh was the hottest town of the State today recording 43.8 degree Celsius. Closely following Titlagarh was Bhawanipatna and Bolangir where the mercury touched 43 degree Celsius.

Temperature stood at 42.9 degree Celsius in Sambalpur, while it was 42.4 degree in both Talcher and Malkangiri, 42.1 degree in Hirakud, 41.1 degree in Angul, 41 degree in Sonepur and 40.4 degree in Jharsuguda.

On the other hand, several coastal towns today recorded slight decrease in temperatures. Even though, the state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 36 degree Celsius, it also witnessed a high relative humidity of 98 per cent. In neighbouring Cuttack, the maximum temperature was 35.6 degree Celsius.

Mercury stayed at 33.4 degrees Celsius in Puri, 33.1 degrees in Paradip, 32.1 in Gopalpur, 36.2 in Balasore.
