Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Steelmaker Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India for an integrated steel plant in Kendrapada district.

The proposed 12 mtpa integrated steel plant will be set up with an investment of Rs 50,000 crore, official sources said.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and steel tycoon Lakshmi N Mittal were present during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Lokaseva Bhavan here in Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, Mittal met Patnaik at Naveen Niwas and discussed his company Arcelor Mittal's projects in the State.


It is pertinent to mention here that Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently discussed several issues with Arcelor Mittal executive chairman LN Mittal and CEO Aditya Mittal.

Pradhan had earlier said that they had discussion on driving domestic steel demand and making the Indian industry more vibrant among other issues.

"Had a fruitful meeting with Mr. Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, Chairman & CEO of ArcelorMittal @ArcelorMittal. We had good discussions on sustainable energy, driving domestic steel demand, boosting steel consumption and making our steel and oil & gas industry more vibrant and competitive," Pradhan had tweeted.
