Balasore:  He might be just eight years old, but his agility is second to none. Soumya Ranjan Sethi, a boy of Nandor village of Khaira area of Balasore is a champion martial artist in Taekwondo and with his skill sets he has not only brought fame for his family and State but has become an inspiration for many.

With his lightning-speed head height and spinning kicks, the 8-year-old prodigy has managed to master the skills of the martial art.

Considering his passion for the martial art at a small age, family members of Soumya Ranjan enrolled him at a local Taekwondo coaching centre after which the boy never looked back.

“I have won gold medals in Cuttack, Kolkata, and Delhi. I recently bagged a bronze medal in Goa. I feel blessed that with the support of my family I have been able to achieve this success,” Soumya Ranjan said.

After successfully pursuing the physical strength training, he moved on to enroll himself at Bhadrak-based Nehru Taekwondo Association where he received professional coaching from national and international level tutors.

Be it State Championships at Cuttack or the National Championships at Kolkata. Soumya Ranjan has earned several accolades at professional level. His family hopes that with further training he will bring more fame to his State and the country.

“Soumya Ranjan’s success is a matter of great pride for our district. I help him train and also take him to Nehru Taekwondo Association in Bhadrak where he receives his training. But the journey so far has been difficult,” his coach Kamalakanta Das said.
