Baripada: Close on the heels of nationwide outrage following attack on some junior doctors in West Bengal, on-duty doctors and nurses of Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district today called cease-work after relative of a patient allegedly misbehaved and manhandled some doctor and nurses at the hospital.
As per reports, tension erupted at the hospital after a heart patient from Jharpokharia area of the district died before undergoing treatment at the hospital. Family members of the patient alleged that they requested the on-duty staff and nurses to immediately admit him for treatment but he later died due to negligence.
"The hospital staff are solely responsible for the incident. It has become a habit of the hospital staff to raise protest if they fail to do their duty responsibly and are caught while committing mistakes."
However, refuting the allegations, a nurse of the hospital said, “After being informed by the relative, I attended the patient immediately. But upon learning about his deteriorating condition, I asked their family members to consult the doctor but they manhandled and misbehaved with me.”
"We need security within the premises and we will not call off cease-work until then," demanded the nurse.
Soon after the incident, the CDMO of the hospital reached the spot to pacify the agitating doctors and nurses.
"After the death of the patient, the relative might have overreacted and manhandled the staff due to which the nurses are feeling insecure," said CDMO, Pradeep Mohapatra.
"The number of patients in the hospital is increasing with time and to tackle such situations and render better service we need to give more attention," added Mohapatra.
The CDMO further said, “I have requested and convinced the staff to call off cease-work and resume the services. We will once again discuss with the college Principal and Superintendent on Monday for further analysis of the matter.”
