Bhubaneswar: A medical team headed by Professor Biranchi Narayan Mohapatra on Tuesday visited Puducherry to examine the health condition of eminent litterateur and Padma Bhushan Manoj Das.

Das has been under treatment at a nursing home at Sri Aurobinda Ashram in Puducherry for the last three months due to old-age related ailments. At present, a four-member team of doctors from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) at Puducherry is monitoring his health condition.

The medical team led by BN Mohapatra, dean and principal of Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri, will examine the health condition of Das and submit a detailed report to Odisha government.


Yesterday, CBK Mohanty, Director of Medical Education and Training had written to the additional chief secretary of health and family welfare department to depute Mohapatra to Puducherry.

Manoj Das, a Padma Bhushan awardee, has been battling against old-age related complications with a fractured hand.

An iconic writer of modern Odisha, Das has carved a niche for himself in the field of literature over the past several decades. He has written many short stories, novels and poems which have been highly appreciated by readers across the world.

He was honoured with the prestigious civilian award, Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhusan this year for his pioneering work in literature.
