Bhubaneswar: Some medical students have raised questions over the selection procedure of state government for filling up of doctor posts across the state.  They have alleged that candidates eligible for permanent posts have been engaged on contractual basis due to unfair selection procedure.

As per reports, an advertisement was issued by the State Health Department inviting candidates for filling up 1950 doctor posts across the state. A total of 1700 candidates had appeared for the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) exam, out of which 938 candidates were selected on permanent basis after document verifications of 1071 candidates.

In the next phase, considering the OPSC ranks, documents of 88 candidates was verified. Out of which, 8 candidates were engaged on permanent basis and 80 on contractual.

“We are recruited on contractual basis. This is injustice to us,” alleged an aspirant, George Deepak Durgadattan.

“Nearly 800 doctors are working under the state government in contractual and ad hoc basis. State government has announced that 1540 doctors have been recruited, which is untrue. They are making such false claims to gain mileage for upcoming elections,” alleged another aspirant Sayed Shahrukh Ahmed.

As per reports, out of 838 posts meant for Unreserved and General category students, 55 posts have been given to SC and ST candidates.
