Nayagarh: The family of a woman of Gochi Bari village who was rushed to Khandapada Community Healthcare Centre (CHC) in Nayagarh for delivery, has alleged sheer negligence on part of the medical authorities after a needle was left inside her body during the operation.

The victim's husband Prabhat Bahuka stated that his wife experienced labour pain on December 25, following which they immediately admitted her to Khandapada CHC. However, after she underwent a minor surgery post delivery, they realised that a needle was left inside her body. Bahuka alleged that such a situation arose due to lackadaisical approach by a nurse engaged in treatment.

Prabhat alleged that due to the nurses' negligence while stitching the patient's body, the needle was left inside the body.

After delivery, the victim experienced severe pain, and she was rushed to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, the doctors there could not remove the foreign substance from her body and again she was referred to SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack for necessary treatment.

But due to financial constraints,  the patient's family was unable to transfer her to Cuttack for further treatment and has sought aid for her treatment.

Meanwhile, Nayagarh Public Health officer Pushpa Namita Larka has said that there is no threat to the patient's life and she is stable.

Larka said, during the surgery, the needle might have slipped or was unintentionally left inside the body due to which she was transferred here, however, the surgeons couldn't remove it. She has, therefore, been referred to Cuttack SCB for the surgery.
