Malkangiri: Panic gripped locals in Malkangiri after Maoists wreaked havoc in a series of incidents in and around the district in last 24 hours.

In the first incident, armed rebels set afire two buses and one truck at Bacheli in Dantewada district along the Malkangiri border. The incident took place on Wednesday night when the ultras intercepted the buses travelling from Dantewada to Jagdalpur and asked the passengers to get down. Later, they set the vehicles on fire.

In the second incident, the red rebels allegedly shot dead a postmaster in Kamalapada village under Chitrakonda police limits.

Around 10 to 15 Maoists reached the house of the deceased identified as Narayan Polasi around 11 pm yesterday and asked him to come out of his house. Later, his body was found in a pool of blood triggering panic in the village.

Members of the outfit also uprooted a section of the railway track near Kamalur railway station following which passengers had a close shave. As per reports, a passenger train travelling from Kamalur to Dantewada on Wednesday night was halted by the railway officials after they came to know about uprooting of the track.
