Malkangiri: After resistance from villagers, the Maoists have issued threats through a letter asking the residents of Jodamba, Sindhibeda and Janturai villages in Malkangiri district to refrain from such confrontation and siding with police.

As per reports, the leader of the Maoist MKB (Malkangiri-Koraput Border) Division Committee, Kailash issued a letter to the villagers telling them that it is in their best interests to co-operate with the ultras and accept their dominion as was the case before.

The letter further stated that, the attack by the villagers that killed two Maoists on 26 January 2020 was pre planned. The residents of those villages had made their intentions quite clear in the past. Had we taken their threat seriously, we might have saved two lives.

Kailash wrote that “We are not opposing any of the developmental works that the government wants to do in the area. Both the martyrs went to hear out the grievances of the locals.”

Threatening the villagers of dire consequences, Kailash warned that once the police and the heavy security personnel deployed in the area leave, the locals would be at the mercy of the Maoists. So they should refrain from deflecting to the opposite camp and shun the administration and its lure.

“No police or administration has ever succeeded in defeating us. The recent incident in Andhra Pradesh is the glaring example of our power,” the letter claimed.

Notably, security has been beefed up in the Papermetla Police limits under Chitrakonda block of the district after the red rebels torched several houses in Janturai village in retaliation over the killing of their members by the villagers a few days back.

Over 1,000 armed jawans of SOG and BSF have been deployed in four to five villages in the district to provide security cover.
