Kalahandi: Close on the heels of encounter of five Maoists in Koraput, the Left Wing Extremists on Saturday triggered series of bomb explosions at two separate places in the cut-off Trilochanpur area in Kalahandi district.

Earlier, two SOG jawans were injured in an improvised explosive device blast under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri yesterday.

According to sources, the ultras triggered a blast near an under-construction CRPF camp in the area. A group of workers accompanied by CRPF jawans had a narrow escape as the blast occurred minutes before their arrival near the camp site.

It is suspected that the Maoists tried to blow-up the CRPF camp to create panic in the region.

After getting information about the explosion, some other CRPF jawans rushed towards the camp on four motorcycles. The jawans had a miraculous escape as the rebels triggered another blast in the region.

"We were coming to work at the CRPF camp we witnessed an explosion near the site. As we were terrified, we returned back to our village. Security personnel were also present during the explosion but as they fled the spot, no one was injured," said a worker.

It may be noted that at least five Maoists, including three women, were gunned down by security personnel following an encounter in Koraput district on May 8. Odisha police had term the operation as a huge success keeping in view the spurt in left-wing extremism in some parts of the State.
