Rayagada: At a time when better road connectivity still eludes several remote areas in Odisha, Maoists reportedly torched three vehicles as a mark of protest against road construction work in Rayagada district last night.

According to reports, over 15 red rebels torched three vehicles including a JCB machine opposing the Saradapur-Thuapadi road construction work under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Muniguda area. The incident occurred at around 9:30 PM yesterday. As many as 15 Maoists including two women were involved in torching of the vehicles, said a driver.

Several Maoist posters have also been recovered from the spot. In the leaflet, the red rebels have warned to stop the road construction work as they claim that it is being executed to favour some company in the region.

Earlier, the ultras had issued warning to the contractor to construct an 8ft road instead of 30 ft wide road under the project.
