Phulbani: Making their presence felt once again in tribal-dominated Kandhamal district, Maoists today blocked the Baliguda-Kantamala road near Sudra village in  Baliguda area of the district by placing trees on the road.

Vehicular movement on the road was abruptly disrupted due to the road blockade.

Posters claiming to have been released by the KKBN Division of the CPI (Maoist) were also found from the spot, sources said. Through the posters, the ultras have threatened to observe a 24-hour Kandhamal bandh tomorrow to protest the killing of five Maoists in police encounter at Sudrukumpa on May 13.

Meanwhile, two suspected Maoist cadres sustained injuries during an encounter with security personnel at Kholibhitar inside Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary of Nuapada district on Tuesday. The duo was shifted to a hospital in Raipur of Chhattisgarh.
