Malkangiri: In a bid to disrupt communication network in their stronghold, Maoists ultras blew up a BSNL mobile tower at Erabor village under Sukma district near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border on Friday.

Around 10-15 heavily-armed Naxals came to Erabor village and bombed the tower using explosives, sources said. The ultras then blocked the road with stones and pasted posters against the government and security forces. After they dispersed into the forest, CRPF jawans reached the spot and removed the blockade.

The incident occurred few kilometres away from Malkangiri. The sound of the explosion triggered panic among people in the area.

According to sources, Maoists activities have increased in Malkangiri district of late. On Thursday BSF Jawans had seized a huge quantity of gelatin explosives during combing operations at Rajulkunda forests under Kalimela block of the district.
