Koraput: Two days after the end of PLGA week, a Maoist sympathiser was arrested on Monday for allegedly extorting money from a road construction contractor and funding left wing extremists in Narayanpatna area of the district.

The accused Maoist sympathiser has been identified as S Muralikrishnan, a contractor by profession.

According to sources, a contractor Manoj Nayak, engaged in a road construction project in Borgi panchayat of the district, lodged a police complaint accusing Muralikrishnan of demanding Rs 30 lakh from him.

Nayak also alleged that Muralikrishnan threatened him of dire consequences and punishment in ‘praja’ court if he refused to give him money.

Basing on the complaint by Nayak, Narayanpatna police arrested Muralikrishnan on Monday.

Police sources said the accused was also arrested earlier on the same charges.

“Muralikrishnan was demanding money from Nayak for funding the Maoists. As per preliminary investigation, the accused had taken Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh from the contractor but this time, he was demanding Rs 30 lakh from him,” informed SDPO of Laxminpur, Tapan Narayan Rath.
