Maoist killed in encounter in Sundargarh

(image) Bhubaneswar:  A naxal was killed in an exchange of fire between the police and the Maoists on Tuesday at Mundatola in Sundargarh.

The Maoist has been identified as Chandiposh area commander Sameer Khalko.

According to police sources, t
he incident took place at around 2 am on Tuesday. The encounter ensued after the police spotted seven to eight Maoists at Mundatola during a combing operation.

The other Maoists fled the spot. The police seized one 9 mm pistol and 30 rounds of bullets from the spot.

In yet another incident, the ultras had fired at a running train in the state on Monday during the Bharat bandh called by them against price rise and scams in different sectors.

About 35 ultras had fired at Barsuan-Rourkela passenger train on Monday afternoon at Pattasahi in Sundargarh. However, no casualty or injury were been reported, police said.

This was the only train connecting Rourkela and Barsuan to carry passengers working in the mining belt. After firing, the rebels fled the scene. Mining activities in K Balanag and Barsuan mines were suspended as the workers did not turn up.
