New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Men's Hockey World Cup 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wished success for the mega hockey event to be held in Odisha in November.

During his address to nation through his Mann Ki Baat radio programme, PM Modi stated that hockey holds special place in the hearts of millions of people in the country.

This year, Hockey World Cup 2018 is being organized at Bhubaneswar. Every Indian who plays any game or has interest in any game, certainly has interest in Hockey, the PM said.

India has a glorious past in Hockey which has produced many great players from Dhyan Chand, Balwinder Singh senior to Dhanraj Pillay.

Modi conveyed his wishes to the Indian Hockey Team for this tournament and assured that 125 crore Indians are supporting them.

“The Men’s Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar will provide a good chance for the sport lovers to witness the matches in the World Cup,” said Modi while urging people to visit Bhubaneswar and cheer Indian and other teams.

Modi further said that Odisha has a rich historical cultural tradition and it is a chance for the sports lovers to visit the place.

“During their visit to Odisha, people as well as players can visit the world famous holy places like the Sun Temple of Konark, Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri and Chilka Lake along with enjoying the games there” Modi added.
