Berhampur: A cement trader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Mathasarasinga area under Kodala police limits of Ganjam district last evening. The deceased has been identified as Rajendra Parida, alias Jyoti of J. Chhachina village.

According to reports, the incident occurred when four miscreants allegedly followed Jyoti when he was at J. Chhachinha square on Sunday evening.

The miscreants allegedly fired at him when he was trying to enter into a nearby shop in a bid to save himself.  Later the miscreants stoned Parida to death.

On getting information, Kodala police reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. Sources said Parida sustained five bullet shot injuries. Police have recovered three rounds of bullets and four empty cartridges from the spot, added sources.

According to sources, Rajendra worked at a textile mill in Surat and had returned to the village 15 days ago. Initial reports suggest that the murder was fallout of past enmity.
