Gajapati: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly shot his uncle to death in Gandeli village under Udaygiri police limits of Gajapati district in Odisha.

The incident took place on Thursday when one Nuapaika Badaraita was returning home with household goods from Shialilti village and his nephew Barun Nayak fired at him. Subsequently, Nuapaika died on the spot.

Later, a complaint was registered by the son of the deceased following which police have launched an investigation. According to sources, the body was recovered from the forest while the gun was seized from the residence of the accused.

"My father was returning home from Shialiti village when Barun, who was hiding in the nearby jungle, attacked him," Nuapaika's son, Lochan Badaraita, said.

According to police sources, the accused (Barun) took the extreme step out of anger as he wanted to marry Nuapaika's daughter. However, Nuapaika had decided to get his daughter married to Barun's younger brother.

"He was angry at his uncle for letting his daughter marry someone else. So he used a country-made pistol to kill him. A day before, a heated argument had taken place between the victim and the accused," Sub-Divisional Police Officer of R. Udaygiri, Antimar Pradhan said.

As per latest reports, Barun is absconding.
