Malkangiri: Superstition can be fatal. It was yet again proved in Malkangiri where a man was allegedly murdered on suspicion of practising witchcraft by a kangaroo court set up by the villagers.

The deceased, identified as one Irma Kartami of Itaguda village under Kalimela Police limits of the district was reportedly beaten to death after the kangaroo court handed a death sentence to him for practising witchcraft.

As per reports, Irma had foretold the death of another man of the same village some days back. As the luck would have it, that man actually died two days ago putting Irma under suspicion of practising witchcraft. Following his death, a kangaroo court in the village performed a trial and handed Irma death sentence on the charges of killing that man.

A 10-member team from the village allegedly executed the sentence by beating Irma to death.

Following Irma's death, his wife lodged a complaint at Kalimela Police station after which the police launched a probe and arrested four persons in connection with the case.

No comments could be obtained from the police in this regard.
