Bhubaneswar: With a day before the commencement of the budget session in Odisha Assembly, one more suicide bid before the State Assembly premises has shocked everyone.

High drama ensued in front of the Assembly on Wednesday when a man, reported to be a resident of Hanspal area in Bhubaneswar, tried to set himself on fire with some inflammable liquid.

Alert police personnel deployed at the spot foiled the suicide bid of the man after capturing him and seizing the combustible liquid from his possession.

Newsmen who caught up with the man after the police took him into custody clarified the reasons behind taking such an extreme step. He alleged that the Mancheswar Police has not been listening to his complaint despite sincere pleas.

Notably, the Commissionerate Police has installed massive security as part of its preparedness for the smooth conduct of the budget session in the backdrop of several suicide bids near the Assembly during the previous sessions.

According to official sources, forces have been deployed at the Assembly, Lok Seva Bhawan and Lower PMG for the session and more security personnel will be present in the high security zone to prevent protests and other untoward incidents. The police has already made it clear that legal action would also be initiated against anyone attempting suicide.
