Bhubaneswar: No one knows if this Make in Odisha conclave would result in the industrial growth in the State, but the Biju Patnaik International (BPI) Airport in Bhubaneswar seemed to be the busiest today as after so many years it created a record for the number of chartered flights to have landed at the airport in one day.

And why not? Top-most industrialists of India including Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Anil Agarwal, Karan Adani, Naveen Jindal and others had arrived in the capital city to attend the Business Leadership Summit on the Day 2 of Make in Odisha conclave.

There were as many as 12 such non-scheduled flights and all of these were parked on the runway due to insufficient space in the Airport Bay, sources said. Plus, these were parked under strict surveillance and with necessary security arrangements.

According to the BPI Airport director Suresh Chandra Hota, such an instance where so many chartered flights land at the airport, is not only is a healthy sign for the airport but it also creates more opportunities for growth in Odisha.

Meanwhile, Hota stated that the authorities are planning to construct eight more parking bays to facilitate flight operations in the airport. "The Airport handles over 44 flight operations in a day on domestic and international routes. Keeping this in mind, we are planning to construct eight more parking bays at the Bhubaneswar Airport,” he said.
