Kolkata/Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister and BJP's top leader Amit Shah on Thursday said that the saffron party will win the upcoming 2024 general elections in Odisha after claiming its majority in West Bengal in the State's assembly polls due in April-May this year.

Addressing BJP's social media volunteers, whom he called the party’s cyber warriors, at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata on Thursday evening, Shah said, "We will not rest before until we have succeeded in forming the government in West Bengal with a two-thirds majority."

Shah, known to be the master strategist of the BJP, said that winning the West Bengal polls will pave the way for electoral success in Odisha, Telangana and other states of the country where the BJP is not in power.

"The development of eastern India will start from West Bengal. After winning the upcoming polls in the State, the BJP will win elections in Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and finally Kerala," said Shah.

While Shah's comment has ensued a political slugfest in Odisha with the Congress and the BJD targetting the BJP. "Focus Odisha is on the priority list of BJP's agenda. There is no second thought that the party will form the government here in 2024. All our workers and leaders are working towards it," said State BJP general secretary, Lekha Samantsinghar.

Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra said that daydreaming has become a tendency of the BJP. "They (BJP) search for water in the desert. As there are elections in West Bengal, they are making such big claims," he added.

BJD MLA Debi Mishra said that political parties make such statements for party organisational purposes. "Results of the previous elections in the State are proof of the developmental works of Odisha government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik," he said.
