Mahila Congress president urges members to up ante against BJD, BJP

Bhubaneswar: All India Mahila Congress president, Sushmita Dev today urged the members of the outfit in Odisha to up their ante against ruling-BJD and BJP ahead of the general elections this year.

“I urged our members to refrain from competing against each other as the fight is against the BJP and BJD. We will try to give tickets to women members but they should prove their capabilities,” Dev said.

Dev was addressing the party workers during the first executive meet of Mahila Congress in Odisha today. The Congress leader advised the workers to work hard for the party.

Deb also said that soon a memorandum will be sent to Odisha Governor from Mahila Congress regarding the Pipili gang rape and murder case and also warned that the State Secretariat will be gheraoed in the upcoming Assembly session.

While targeting the BJD-led government, Dev said “Only 13% of girls in Odisha go beyond secondary schooling and there has been a huge rise in girl child trafficking. Moreover, we feel that there is stagnation in livelihood programmes for women.”
