Cuttack: Intensifying protests for justice in the Mahanga double murder case where two of BJP leaders, including Kulamani Baral were murdered in cold blood, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a Padyatra from Mahanga to Gherao State Assembly on March 20, 2021.

As per reports, BJP members led by party's Cuttack district President, Prakash Behera set out on a Padyatra from Mahanga on Wednesday for Bhubaneswar to stage demonstration and gherao the State Assembly protesting the alleged political murder culture in the State that was showcased in the killing of BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate on January 2, 2021.

Giving details about the march, BJP leader Sharda Pradhan said, "This is the fourth stage of our march. We have started our journey from Lord Raghunath Jew's Shrine in Mahanga and will gherao the State Assembly after reaching Bhubaneswar on March 20."

"This is meant to make people aware of police cover up to give Minister Pratap Jena an escape route though he is very much involved in the murder of Kulamani Baral," said Pradhan.

Similarly, BJP leader Yajnyaseni Jena slammed the Odisha government over the murders and said, "The legislator from Mahanga is responsible for the mayhem in the area. He is the reason law and order situation has gone to haywires in the constituency." she said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Baral was murdered by unidentified assailants near Jankoti in Cuttack district in January this year. Baral, BJP’s Mandal Prabhari from Salipur and former block chairman of Mahanga was returning home on a bike when they came under attack from the miscreants near Jankoti,  leaving him critically injured. Later, he was declared dead at the Mahanga Community Health Centre (CHC).

Earlier, Ramakant Baral, son of deceased BJP leader Kulamani Baral  had alleged that Prafulla Biswal, the prime accused in the murders had claimed in his last phone call that he had been framed in the case by Minister Pratap Jena.

Later Prafulla, the prime accused, was found dead near Nua Bandal Chhak in Tangi area of Cuttack on February 6. While police claimed he died in an accident, the BJP termed it a well-planned murder.
