Delhi: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal constituted to resolve the Mahanadi water-sharing dispute began its hearing today and granted six weeks time to Chhattisgarh & Maharashtra governments to furnish replies on the interim plea filed by Odisha. The next hearing has been scheduled on December 15, said Surya Mishra, Advocate General of Odisha.

The court has reserved January 15 for hearing the root petition on the matter.

Odisha Water Resources department secretary, Pradeep Jena along with government-appointed advocates and experts attended the hearing of the tribunal today.

In its petition, the Odisha government had highlighted the issue of illegal construction of projects and arbitrary control of water flow of Mahanadi River by Chhattisgarh.
