Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area has formed over west-central Bay of Bengal under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. The associated circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric level and it is likely to move west-northwest wards and become well marked during the next 48 hours. Moreover, the southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of west central and north Bay of Bengal today, IMD said.

As per IMD’s forecast, the conditions are likely to become favourable for the advancement of southwest monsoon into some parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, parts of Rayalseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh and remaining parts of Bay of Bengal, north-eastern States, Sikkim and some parts of Odisha and gangetic West Bengal during subsequent 48 hours.

The southwest monsoon is likely to touch Odisha on June 11 or 12 and is likely to cover the entire State by June 17, as per IMD forecast.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely to occur over west central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs of June 10): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm likely to occur at several parts of South Odisha and at a few places over the districts of North Odisha.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning will occur at isolated parts in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Bolangir, sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Ganjam.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Mayurbhanj.

Day 2: (Valid up to 0830 hrs of June 11): Districts of south and north Odisha to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorm activity.

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur in Malkangirim Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Kendrapara and Kalahandi.

Thunderstorm with lightning alert also issued for the districts of Keonjharm Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrakm Khurdam Dhenkanal, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Puri and Ganjam.

Day 3 (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 12):

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur in isolated parts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated parts of Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Puri, Kalahandi and Kandhamal

Day 4: (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 13):

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir and Bargarh.

Day 5: (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 14):

Light to moderate rain or thundershower to occur at several places in the districts of south interior Odisha and at a few places over the rest districts in Odisha.
