Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday urged the people of the State to strictly follow COVID-19 guidelines to prevent a possible lockdown-like situation.

Though the overall Covid-19 situation is under control in Odisha, people need to strictly adhere to the existing protocols, he said.

In his address, Patnaik said that the Covid-19 situation has assumed serious proportions in several states like Maharashtra where lockdown has been imposed in some regions.

However, at present, Odisha is in a much better position as far as the Covid-19 situation is concerned in the country. Even the World Health Organisation has appreciated Odisha government's efforts in tackling the pandemic situation, said Patnaik.

"The daily Covid-19 cases in Odisha is now below the 100-mark and Zero infection is our target. Even though the overall situation is under control, we should not get complacent as the Covid fear is not over," said Patnaik.

Patnaik said that the memories of problems and hardships faced by people during lockdown are still fresh. The lockdown restrictions had adversely impacted the economy, social sectors and the education of children, he said.

"Due to cooperation and sacrifice of people, normalcy has now returned. Nobody wants to return to the lockdown phase and the only way out is to be cautious. People need to remain cautious and strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines," Patnaik added.

Meanwhile, all district administrations have been directed to strictly enforce the COVID norms to avoid any further spread of the virus.
