Bhadrak: A police official, who reached late for an inquiry into a road accident, faced the wrath of people at Lunga village in Bhadrak district this morning.

As per reports, a minor girl sustained injuries when a DJ vehicle hit her during a procession on Tuesday night. Basudevpur police station IIC Nabakrushna Nayak, who reached the village this morning for an inquiry, was thrashed by the locals for the delay. The locals pelted stones at the officer leaving him critically injured. They also ransacked the police vehicle and damaged it. Nayak, who sustained head injuries, was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, 23 persons of the village have been arrested and produced before court, informed police officials.

Bhadrak SDPO Jalandhar Jali said, "Over 50 persons were involved in the incident and 23 have already been arrested. Further raids will be conducted in the village to nab more persons. A case has been registered in this regard,"

Meanwhile, the district SP has reached the Basudevpur police station and will visit the spot later in the day to take stock of the situation.
