Sundergarh: Tension erupted at Bonai electric office in the district today morning after local residents of Sanagogua village ransacked the office premises following death of a farmer due to alleged electrocution.

According to reports, the farmer identified as Syamaghan Sahu was ploughing his farmland when one of his two bullocks accidentally came in contact with a snapped live wire on his agricultural field. Sahu immediately tried to save the animal from the electric shock but he also got electrocuted. Later, both died on the spot.

The incident sparked palpable tension in the area as angry locals went on a rampage at the Bonai electric office alleging lackadaisical attitude by the electricity authorities as reason behind the farmer’s death.

Locals demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased farmer and government job to one of his family members, but none of the electric officials turned up at the spot.

“We informed the concerned electric officials about Sahu’s death. Even though they are responsible for the incident, they did not come to the spot to look into the matter," said a local resident.

After being informed, Bonai Police rushed to the area after and tried to control the situation.
