Locals hit streets demanding road in Daringbadi

Kandhamal: Palpable tension prevailed as residents of Tajungia panchayat under Daringbadi block staged road blockade today near Mahagudi area demanding construction of a road from Mahagudi to KiIimela area in the district.

People of Tajungia panchayat alleged that they have been suffering because of lack of road and supply of ration items. Despite repeated appeals to the local administration, no steps were taken to address the issue, they alleged.

The agitators also threatened to continue their protest until their problem is resolved. Moreover, no official of the district administration has reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

On the other hand, vehicular movement on Brahmanigaon-Daringbadi route was completely disrupted due to the protest.

Soon after the incident, the office of the former MP Baijayant Panda tweeted, "Sad to see people are forced to hit the streets to get what they lawfully deserve. Local administration should work in a transparent manner to ensure development at a faster pace."
