Cuttack: No licence has been issued so far for the sale of firecrackers in the city, informed Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh on Tuesday. Though Commissionerate Police has received a number of applications, but no permission has been given yet, he added.

The clarification came a day after Cuttack DCP had informed that temporary licences will be issued for setting up of firecracker shops during the upcoming festival of Diwali.

“No decision on opening of firecracker stalls has been taken. Only after necessary guidelines are issued by Odisha government, we will take an appropriate decision,” said Singh.

Singh yesterday had told that elaborate security arrangements have been made for Kali Puja, permission for which has been granted.

Around 15 platoons of police force, supervised by 50 senior officials, will be deployed during the Puja. All puja committees have been apprised of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and High Court’s direction pertaining to the COVID-19 guidelines. At police station level awareness is also being created to sensitise the personnel,” he added.
