Bhubaneswar: A memorial service of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be held at the Unit-3 Exhibition Ground here today. Leaders cutting across party lines are scheduled to join the memorial service this afternoon.

BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and legislators will attend the meeting, informed sources.

Yesterday Union Minister Jual Oram and BJP State vice president Samir Mohanty met Chief Minister at Naveen Niwas and invited him to attend the programme. Similarly, the Leader of Opposition was also invited for the memorial service.

The ashes of Vajpayee were immersed in sea at Puri yesterday. As part of the BJP’s ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ across the country, urn containing the ashes of Vajpayee (Asthi Kalash) that were brought to Bhubaneswar, was taken to Puri in a grand procession. Several leaders of BJP including union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, Odisha BJP chief Basant Panda and many others took part in the procession.
After the procession reached Puri, the urn was taken around the Srimandir and the ashes were immersed in Mahodadhi around 5 PM.

However, there were reports of eggs being hurled on the procession near Chandanpur area of Puri. BJP leaders Bhrugu Buxipatra and Pravati Parida blamed BJD supporters for the incident and later filed a written complaint at the Chandanpur Police Station in this regard.
