Sambalpur: Intensifying their long standing demand for setting up of a permanent High Court bench in Western Odisha, members of Sambalpur District Bar Association have decided to close down all the courts in the district from today. The shutdown will be observed till the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly ends on September 20.

The Association also threatened to shut down revenue offices from Thursday and stage protest at Nelson Mandela Chhak in the town from 10 am to 5 pm.

"The decision was taken at its general body meeting on Tuesday. All the courts will remain close till the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly ends. We have also decided to shut down the Collectorate, Sub-Collectorate and other major offices like RDC, Registrar, RTO and Election Commission," informed President of Sambalpur District Bar Association Bijitendra Pradhan.

“We will also sit in protest at the Nelson Mandela Chhak from 10 to 5 till the monsoon session of the Odisha Assembly concludes,” Pradeep Bahidar, senior lawyer.
