Sambalpur: Demanding establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in western Odisha, agitating lawyers have decided to intensify their protest and a meeting in this regard was convened in Bargarh.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the ongoing protest by lawyers' associations across different districts in the western parts of the State.

"A coordination committee meeting was held today in the presence of various bar members. It was decided that all associations in different districts of western Odisha will be urged to finalise one place for the establishment of the bench," General Secretary of Bargarh district lawyers' association, Lipsit Mishra, said.

On November 30, a 48-hour ‘Maha Bandh’ was called by the Central Action Committee (CAC) of All-Western Odisha Bar Association (AWOBA) for establishment of a permanent High Court bench in the region.

Lawyers’ associations of different districts including the Sambalpur Bar Association and other social and cultural organisations of western Odisha took part in the two-day-long bandh. It has been more than two months that the lawyers are on protest pressing for a permanent bench in Western Odisha.
