Lawyers stage protest in Jeypore demanding permanent HC bench in undivided Koraput

Koraput: Members of the District Lawyers' Association of Jeypore staged a protest today demanding establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in undivided Koraput. The agitation will continue till December 17 and if the demand is not fulfilled, the association has threatened to call for Jeypore bandh on December 18.

According to sources, all the lawyers' associations of the undivided Koraput districts have been informed about the protest.

President of District Lawyers' Association of Jeypore, Biresh Pattnaik, said, "The Union law minister has written a letter to Odisha CM to give information on the location and infrastructure for the establishment of the bench so that a bill can be passed. We want the bench to be established in Koraput as it is the right place."

On the other hand, it has been more than two months that lawyers across the western Odisha districts are protesting for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in the region.
