Bhubaneswar: In what could possibly further delay the ambitious Paika Rebellion Memorial project, Khurda district administration has informed Odisha government that 50 Acres of land as requisitioned by the Centre for construction of the historical project near Barunei Hills is unavailable.

In a letter to Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management department, the district collector has clarified that, "After field verification, it has been found that such a large patch of land is unavailable on the foothills of Barunei for aforesaid purpose."

However, the district collector further informed that a suitable patch of land measuring 6.560 Acres of land in Khordha Mouza has been identified and is found suitable for the project.

The identified piece of land is of 'Puratan Patita' kind and is situated on Khata number 340 and Plot number 865.

It may be noted that the Central government had on March 2018 requested the State government to identify 50 acres of land either at Khurda or on the foothills of Barunei Mountain for the proposed memorial.
