Bhubaneswar: Politics continues to take centre stage over the death of Haridaspur lady panchayat executive officer (PEO) in-charge Smitarani Biswal with Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati today accusing both BJP and BJD of shielding the accused in the case.
“Earlier, the pictures of Rupesh Bhadra, who has been arrested in connection with the death case, with BJD leader Arun Sahoo and Pranab Balabantaray had surfaced. Now his pictures with BJP leaders Sajjan Sharma and a woman BJP leader have come to light," Bahinipati alleged.
“It indicates that the accused was in contact not only with BJD but also he had links with BJP and they all are now protecting him,” the Jeypore MLA said, adding it is unfortunate that SP Charan Singh Meena hinted at love affair between the lady PEO and the accused as the reason behind the death of the former.
However, responding to the allegations of Bahinipati, BJP leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar said, “We are openly asking others to name a single one from the BJP to be present at the spot when the lady PEO died. If someone clicked a photo, it does not mean he/she was protecting the accused. Those who are bringing such allegations should come out with proof."
BJP also alleged that the Jajpur SP has misused his official power in the case. A delegation of the saffron party met director general of police (DGP) BK Sharma and submitted a complaint against the SP.
“If those who are part of the government, administration or police do partiality, it is difficult for people to get justice. Even after the death of the lady PEO, the SP did not restrain himself from tarnishing her image," Lekhashree alleged.
“Jajpur SP reiterated the statements of accused Rupesh Bhadra as if he was probing somebody's extra marital affair and not a murder case," she further said.
