Jajpur: Demanding CBI investigation into the death of lady Panchayat Extension Officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal and registration of criminal cases against Superintendent of Police Charan Singh Meena, BJP workers today gheraoed different police stations of the district.

The protesting BJP workers lodged complaints against the Jajpur SP in different police stations alleging that the SP deliberately maligned the character of the deceased in a press conference.

"After the PEO's death, the Jajpur Superintendent of Police levelled malicious allegations against her which has affected her family members. It is extremely shameful and action should be taken against him. BJP will continue its protest till he is not punished," said Biswajit Nayak, a BJP leader from Korei.

It is pertinent to mention that Odisha government on Friday clamped Section 144 on the guest house of arrested Rupesh Bhadra in Haridaspur of Jajpur district where the lady PEO was found dead a few days ago.

Collector & Tehsildar had confirmed that the guest house was built on government land and will be demolished after investigation of the case concludes.

The guest house came under the police scanner after Smitarani’s body was found hanging there. It was later established that the guest house belonged to Bhadra, husband of the Sarpanch of Haridaspur Panchayat.

Later in the day, Mahila Morcha President Pravati Parida demanded the probe report submitted by the Women Commission to be made public. Accusing the Commission of telling lies, Parida threatened to gherao Commission's office demanding resignation of the chairperson.
