Sambalpur: An on-duty forest guard posted in Bamra Forest Division was manhandled by locals after an elephant trampled a man to death.

According to sources, a local resident named Sunil Ekka was killed in an elephant attack on Jumermunda-Mabulmunda forest road on Monday.

Immediately after the incident, forest guard of Phiringibahal forest beat, Tapaswini Rout and cops from Gadposh Police outpost reached the spot to assess the situation.  However, irate locals heckled the officials and later beat up the forest guard. The matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Following the incident, the forest guard lodged a complaint at Govindpur Police Station. Meanwhile, the family of the man killed in the elephant attack has been provided a compensation of Rs 20,000.
