Union Home Minister Amit Shah visits tribal-dominated Manipur district, announces Rs 10 lakh for victims' families
Bolangir: Once again Bolangir Town Police is in news for the wrong reasons. This time the act of a lady constable allegedly thrashing a drunk man after tying him to a pole has elicited sharp reactions from different quarters.
Surprisingly, the incident occurred at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital campus. It is alleged that instead of taking legal action against the drunken man for creating public nuisance, the lady cop identified as Mina Mallick thrashed him along with some people who had also gathered at the spot.
When contacted, Mallick refused to comment on the issue. However, senior officials of Town Police Station and local outpost informed that the man misbehaved and manhandled the concerned lady constable. On getting information, a PCR van reached the spot and brought the man to the police station.
Though the incident occurred on Sunday, the cops did not reveal anything regarding the whereabouts of the man.
"When the lady constable went to rescue the man, who was tied up by public to a pole, he attacked her," said Inspector-in-charge of Town Police Station, Tophan Bag.
