Bolangir: A labourer died while undergoing treatment in hospital after he was mercilessly beaten by two persons for delaying to go to work even after accepting advance from them at Dumerpadar village under Patnagarh police limits in the district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Jagdish Mirdha of Dumerpadar village while two accused are Bhagwan Bariha and Shanti Bariha of Patamunda village.

According to reports, Bhagwan, who works as supervisor for a contractor outside the state had given Jagdish an advance of Rs 1.3 lakh to work for the contractor. Although Jagdish had accepted the money, he allegedly kept on delaying and did not go to work.

Infuriated with the callous attitude, Bhagwan along with his associate Shanti thrashed Jagdish on Monday. Critically injured Jagdish was rushed to Government Medical College & Hospital in Bolangir where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

“My father was brutally beaten and though I rushed him to Bolangir hospital, he could not survive,” son of the deceased, Bharat Mirdha said.
