Rayagada: Following the death of three people in the Gunupur stone quarry blast, under Rayagada block, the Koraput district administration on Friday ordered the tehsildars to take stern action against illegal blasting in quarries.

According to reports, blasting in more than 30 stone quarries in the district is taking place without obtaining any permission from the district administration. Now, following the mishap the administration seems to have woken up and ordered a probe into the incident.

“The tehsildars have been ordered to ensure that the operation at all stone quarries in the district are conducted in strict adherence to law. All quarries should take the necessary clearances before functioning. Otherwise, those will be declared illegal and stern actions will be taken,” stated Koraput Collector Madhusudan Mishra.

It is worth mentioning that three persons including two women had been killed while six others sustained critical injuries in an explosion at a stone quarry in Gunpur area on October 16.
