Bhubaneswar: Thousands of ‘kanwariyas’ or ‘Bol bom’ devotees, carrying pots full of sanctified water on their shoulders, walked miles before thronging the Lingaraj Temple here to offer water to Lord Shiva on ‘Shravan Somvar’ today.
The devotees, clad in saffron clothes and carrying sanctified water in containers that they had fetched from various water bodies, on their shoulders were seen making a serpentine queue outside the temple waiting for their turn to offer the water to the Lord.
The Lingaraj temple administration has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure hassle free darshan by the devotees. Two platoons of police have been deployed to maintain law and order situation and 21 CCTV cameras also installed in and around the temple to monitor the movement of the people in the area.

Similarly, Lokanath Temple in Puri and Akhandalamani Temple in Bhadrak wore a festive look witnessing a large number of Bol Bom devotees making way into the temple since morning to offer water to the Lord.
However a considerable decrease in the number of Kanwariyas was noticed this Monday due to complete lunar eclipse last Friday, sources said.

A number of devotees have also congregated at the Dhabaleswar Temple in Cuttack today to worship Lord Shiva on this auspicious occasion. The main gate of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple was opened for the public early in the morning after the conduct of various special rituals including Mangala Alati.
Special arrangements have been made inside the temple and near the hanging bridge to ensure smooth darshan for the Kanwariyas and others visiting the shrine to offers prayers to the Lord.
