Kandhamal Road Mishap: Alleging medical negligence, injured flee MKCG

Berhampur: Almost 12 days after the tragic Kandhamal road accident which had claimed 10 lives, the critically injured persons, who were undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, are now forced to move to private hospitals following alleged negligence in treatment at the State-run hospital.

As per reports, a two-year-old boy, who was injured in the accident, allegedly died following negligence in treatment. Surekha Badaseth, mother of the deceased minor, alleged that her son died due to medical negligence of the MKCG staff.

"Along with my son, I was admitted to the hospital (MKCG) following the mishap on January 22. However, the nurses didn't attend my son properly and he died. Had I admitted him to a private hospital (where she is currently undergoing treatment), he would have survived," rued Surekha.

Similarly, other patients and their attendants were also not happy over the treatment at MKCG.

"My wife had a fracture in hand but she was not provided required attention and treatment at the government hospital," alleged Dushasana Badaseth whose wife was injured in the road mishap.

One Jayanti Baliarsingh also alleged that her son, who suffered a leg injury, received proper treatment only after he was shifted to a private hospital.

Following the allegations of medical negligence at MKCG, minority cell members of the BJD and the Congress reportedly visited the hospital and held discussions with the authorities of the hospital.

MKCG superintendent Charan Panda on the other hand informed that a probe will be carried out soon on the allegations. "There will be an inquiry into the allegations and stern action will be taken against those found involved in any type of negligence," said Panda.
