Bhubaneswar: Kabita Mahakud, who is claiming to be daughter-in-law of Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, on Thursday deposed at the Mahila Police Station here and produced documents in support of her affirmation on Pankaj Mahakud’s fatherhood of her child.

She showed documents issued by the Baliguda hospital during the delivery of her daughter mentioning Pankaj Mahakud, the son of the Champua MLA, as the father at the Mahila Police Station. Similarly, in the birth certificate of Kabita’s daughter, it was mentioned Pankaj is the father of her child, sources said.

Kabita also showed invitation cards, printed on the occasion of birth ritual celebrations of her daughter, mentioning Pankaj as the father of her child, the sources added.

However, Kabita could not present any documents supporting her claims that Pankaj Mahakuda married her.

Talking to media persons, Kabita said, “Are these documents not enough to support my claim? Besides, the police team must visit Malkangiri and inquire to find out whether he (Pankaj Mahakud) was not living with me there.”

Earlier, Kabita had asked for a DNA test of her daughter to prove that she is the daughter of Pankaj Mahakud.

Notably, Kabita had filed a case of physical and mental harassment against the Champua MLA in Bhubaneswar on March 1. A case under Sections 498 A, 341, 294 and 34 of the IPC was registered at the Mahila Police Station.

The complainant had alleged that she had tied the knot with the MLA’s eldest son, Pankaj in 2012 after separating from her first husband Debasis Mahakud. The couple was living in Motu in Malkangiri district after marriage.

She alleged that since Sanatan was not in favour of her marriage with Pankaj, he forcibly took his son to Champua in August 2015 and had kept him confined there since then.
