Justice Pramath Patnaik takes oath as Orissa HC judge

Cuttack: Justice Pramath Patnaik was sworn in as the Judge of Orissa High Court. Chief Justice KS Jhaveri administered the oath of office and secrecy to Patnaik at a formal ceremony held in the High Court today.

Justice Patnaik was retransferred to Orissa High Court from Jharkhand High Court, where he was serving since December 22, 2014. Prior to that, he was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Orissa HC on September 24, 2014.

Earlier on January 12, the Supreme Court Collegium after accepting the plea of Justice Patnaik had recommended his retransfer to Orissa HC. Following the recommendation, the Ministry of Law and Justice had issued a notification in this regard on January 30 and directed him to assume charge by February 13.

The total number of judges at the Orissa HC with the new appointment has increased to 15 against the sanctioned strength of 27.
