Koraput: A junior engineer (JE) working with Borigumma Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department reportedly went missing under mysterious circumstances on Monday. The JE has been identified as M Venkat Rao.

According to sources, Rao had gone to Haradaguda village on Monday for site selection for setting up a tube well. Four persons including SDO of Jeypore RWSS, another Junior Engineer and a contractor had accompanied him during the visit.

After the completion of the site selection process, the department officials were about to leave the place when they found Rao missing. They reportedly searched for Rao till 6 PM, but could not trace him. Later, they lodged a written complaint with B Singpur police.

While questions are being raised on how the JE went missing in  broad daylight, police have launched a probe into the matter. A team led by sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) carried out search at several places but could not trace Rao.

Meanwhile, Rao’s wife T Sanghmitra Patro alleged that her husband was under mental pressure for the last couple of days.

“My husband left home at around 9 am yesterday by saying that he was going to Haradaguda for official work. I called up him at around 11 am, but his cellphone was unreachable. When I called up a JE who accompanied my husband to the field visit, he informed me that they just returned from the site and my husband was missing since 12 pm.”

She said her husband was under mental pressure as his salary for the month of December was withheld by the authorities.

“While five persons had gone for the site selection, how come my husband alone stayed there and did not return back home?” she questioned.

Later in the day, B Singhpur Police recovered the body of the missing RWSS junior engineer from Haradaguda forest in the district.
