Kalahandi: In a shocking development, the Junagarh gang rape survivor today levelled accusations that Lalindra Sabar, the person who had given her lift in his motorcycle is the prime culprit alleging that it was him who raped her first in the forest.

Questioning the alleged leniency of police towards accused Lalindra, the survivor speaking to a few local web channels threatened, "I will commit suicide if he (Lalindra) is not arrested. All the culprits should be hanged till death."

On the other hand, Odisha BJP secretary Lekhashree Samantsinghar while addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar today targeted the ruling-BJD and accused the local leaders including Odisha energy minister Dibyashankar Mishra of shielding the prime accused in the case.

Lekha alleged, "The accused Lalindra Sabar happens to be the driver of a bus owned by Kalahandi district BJD working president Prabodh Rath, which is why attempts are being made to release him. Even Local MLA Dibyasankar Mishra is using his clout to free him."

"Minister Mishra should answer whether the accused is a driver of Prabodh Rath's bus or no. When the girl herself is claiming that she was raped by Lalindra, how can police release him?," added Lekhashree.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Pradipta Nayak has threatened to take to streets and gherao the SP office and police station if the prime accused is not arrested.

However, Junagarh MLA Mishra has termed BJP's allegations as baseless. "It's a sensitive issue & should not be given a political angle. Police is carrying out its duty in an effective manner," said Mishra.

Later in the day, Kalahandi SP B Gangadhar said that initially the survivor had not revealed anything about Lalindar Sabar. However, we will again record the statements of her and appropriate action against the accused will be taken after a detailed probe.
