Sundergarh: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in the State, an elderly man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Jabaladihi village under Kinjirkela section of Sundergarh district early morning today.

According to reports, a herd of elephants had entered into the area from adjoining forests in Chhattisgarh a week ago but one of them strayed from the herd and had been moving around near the village forests.

Recently the jumbo has been frequently marching towards human settlements in Bandhabahal and Kinjirkela area wreaking chaos.

Yesterday late night, when Feje Pere (65) of Jabaladihi village was sleeping, the elephant attacked his house and later trampled him to death when he tried to escape from the attack.

Forest officials engaged in patrolling at a nearby village rushed to the spot after getting information and drove the elephant away.They also rushed Pere to Kinjirkela hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
