Odisha: Union Minister Jual Oram targeted the State government for its failure in health sector after witnessing the shoddy condition of the Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College during his tour in Koraput.

“The hospital has a leaking room with beds for the patients on the verandah of the hospital. Even patients are forced to sleep on the verandah floor while doctors neglect ward rounds,” said Oram after visiting the hospital.

As per reports, the substandard condition at the medical college was first brought into public focus by OTV, following which the Union Minister paid a visit to the medical college.

Oram has also criticized the State government for refusing to implement central government-sponsored Ayushaman Bharat health scheme.

It is to be noted that Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) became the fourth government medical college in the State after it was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik last year.

The 100-seat medical institute was built at a cost of Rs 192 crore to cater to the healthcare requirements of the people of undivided Koraput district including Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and adjoining areas was a long-cherished dream for people of these tribal areas.
